PPE是EEC，personal protective equipment 的简写，所称PPE系指任何供个人为防备一种或多种损害健康和安全的危险而穿着或持用的装置或器具。 主要用于保护雇员免受由于接触化学辐射、电动设备、人力设备、机械设备或在一些危险工作场所而引起的严重的工伤或疾病。
除了面罩，安全玻璃，安全鞋以外，个人防护设备包括了大量的呼吸防护设备、防护服、包括安全帽、护目镜、听觉保护器（耳塞）、安全手套、安全鞋、呼吸器和安全带。
工作用途上包括：protective shoes, goggles 防护鞋子，护目镜
家庭用：sunglasses and gardening gloves 太阳镜，园艺用手套
娱乐用：helmets for biking, in-line/roller skating 骑自行车、溜冰时用的头盔
个人防护设备加贴CE标志声明符合PPE指令和其他指令的健康和安全要求。
PPE还应包括：
(a)用数个装置或器具由制造商整体装配而成的，用以保护个人以防一种或更多潜在的同时发生的危险的一个组合设备；
(b)为执行某种特定活动，个人穿着或持用的与人身非防护性设备可分离地或不可分离地装配于一体的保护装置或器具；
(c)为使上述设备具备满意的功能和专有用途必不可少的可互换的PPE组件。
(d)任何与PPE一起投放市场的，用来将PPE与另一外接的，附加装置联结的系统，即使该系统在危险环境的整个期间并非要始终穿着或持用，均应视为该设备的组成部分。
PPE也按照其风险指数分为：一类、二类、三类。其中类别越高风险越高，如手套：家庭用为1类，工作用为3类。
