玻璃陨石主要按年龄分类，而同一地区的玻璃陨石具有大体一致的年龄值。先前世界上玻璃陨石主要集中分布于 4个地区:
1区 。亚澳区:包括澳大利亚、印度尼西亚、东南亚、菲律宾、塔斯马尼亚等地及附近海域，年龄值约70万年。
2区 。捷克和斯洛伐克区:发现于波斯米亚和摩拉维亚，在摩拉维亚发现的称莫尔达维玻璃陨石，年龄值约 1450万年。
3区 。北美区:主要发现于美国得克萨斯州、佐治亚州等地，年龄值约3400万年 。
4区 。科特迪瓦区:包括科特迪瓦、加纳及其附近海域，年龄值约110万年。
但是，经过现在研究发现，在中国大陆许多地区发现大量相似玻璃陨石，特别是在山东青岛沿海，发现有玻璃陨石和某母石的陨落带，因此，关于陨石主要集中区不得不再加上一个区--中国区。
5区 。中国区:主要发现于中国山东，湖北，新疆，及有待发现的各地。年龄值约70万年。
