余新志先生，除了他的墨竹画著称于世以外，他的画路十分宽广，花鸟、山水、人物都很精到、大气。他的花鸟画除了吸收古人的传统笔墨神韵外，更是从现实生活中写生、提炼创作而来，具有浓郁的生活气息和强烈的时代特点。他的巨幅画作《莺歌燕舞》创作于20世纪70年代初，画面上数十只鸟雀腾飞，数十种花竟相斗艳，整幅画面呈现出一派生机，大有乾坤万里春之势。他倾情创作的极富生活情趣和时代特点的新作《不是春光，胜似春光》被珍藏在毛主席诗词名家书画精品大画册里。还有不少新作如《征服》、《竹鸟谈诗》、《鸽魂》、《清风雅韵》、《十里春风》都给人以全新的美感。
