After testing 240 HDPE plastic sleepers installed by the Chicago transportation authority (CTA) in new ones have been installed and anotherrdered. The CTA general manager of power and road engineering said that technical specifications for HDPE plastic sleepers are currently being developed for all vertical rail truck lines on the ground, and it is estimated that HDPE plastic sleepers will account for 25 to 30 percent of CTA sleepers within 10 years.
