珐琅又称“拂郎”、“佛郎”、“发蓝”，是一种玻化物质。它以长石、为主要原料，加入纯碱、硼砂为助熔剂，氧化钛、氧化锑、氟化物等作乳浊剂，加入氧化铜、氧化钴、氧化铁、氧化锰、氧化锑等作着色剂，经过粉碎、混合、煅烧、熔融后，倾入水中急冷得到珐琅熔块，再经细磨而得到珐琅粉。将珐琅粉调和后，涂施在金、银、铜等金属器上，经焙烧，便成为金属胎珐琅。若以玻璃为胎，则称为玻璃胎珐琅；以瓷器为胎者，则称为瓷胎珐琅。 按装饰工艺不同，金属胎珐琅器可分为掐丝珐琅、錾胎珐琅、画珐琅、透明珐琅等，也有将上述二种或二种以上工艺结合起来共同装饰一件器物的，称之为复合珐琅。其中与瓷器有关的珐琅工艺只有一种，即画珐琅，一般称之为“珐琅彩”，其正式名称应为“瓷胎画珐琅”。
景泰蓝既是皇家重器，自然也被视作国宝，从清咸丰、光绪年间，景泰蓝就开始作为代表中国的艺术品在海外参展。1904年美国芝加哥世界博览会和1905年巴拿马万国博览会上，景泰蓝就曾展出并两次获奖。辛亥革命爆发后，清宫内的能工巧匠带着一部分景泰蓝散入民间，普通民众惊奇于景泰蓝的华美，其工艺由此开枝散叶，并在民国初年得到井喷式发展。如今，来自海外的掐丝珐琅工艺已成为中国工艺美术史上极为重要的一章，景泰蓝也被誉为中华国粹，列入国家非物质文化遗产。

Enamel is also called " Fu Lang", " Fo Lang" and " Fa Lan" and is a kind of vitrified substance. It uses feldspar as main raw material, soda ash and borax as fluxing agents, titanium oxide, antimony oxide and fluoride as opacifying agents, copper oxide, cobalt oxide, iron oxide, manganese oxide and antimony oxide as coloring agents, after crushing, mixing, calcining and melting, it is poured into water for rapid cooling to obtain enamel frit, and then it is finely ground to obtain enamel powder. After the enamel powder is mixed, it is coated on metal utensils such as gold, silver and copper, and then baked to become metal enamel. If glass is used as the tire, it is called glass tire enamel. If porcelain is used as the tire, it is called porcelain enamel. According to different decoration techniques, metal enamel can be divided into cloisonné enamel, chiseled enamel, painted enamel, transparent enamel and so on. There are also two or more of the above techniques combined to decorate a piece of ware, called composite enamel. Among them, there is only one kind of enamel craft related to porcelain, namely painting enamel, commonly known as " enamel color" and its official name should be " porcelain enamel painting".
Cloisonne is not only a royal instrument, but also a national treasure. Cloisonne has been exhibited overseas as a work of art representing China since the reign of Xianfeng and Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty. Cloisonne was exhibited and won two prizes at the 1904 Chicago World Expo and the 1905 Panama World Expo. After the outbreak of the 1911 Revolution, craftsmen in the Qing Dynasty Palace brought some cloisonne into the folk, and ordinary people were surprised by the beauty of cloisonne. Their craft was thus blossomed and developed in the early years of the Republic of China. Today, cloisonné enamel from overseas has become an extremely important chapter in the history of Chinese arts and crafts.
