紫砂挂釉器物始于宋，盛于明清。明代时紫砂挂釉器物多为豆青釉、月白釉、天蓝釉，酱釉。 清早期出现加彩挂釉紫砂。
Purple sand glazed objects began in the Song Dynasty and flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In Ming Dynasty, purple sand glaze hanging utensils were mostly bean green glaze, moon white glaze, sky blue glaze and sauce glaze. In the early Qing Dynasty, there appeared glazed purple sand.
明代晚期到清代乾隆朝之前的紫砂胎挂釉器，在使用白泥、紫泥两种胎土成型之后，先上护胎釉、再上白釉、再上色釉，然后一次入窑在氧化气氛中烧成。
