The unit can also be used individually to correct erroneous NMEA 0183 serial data sentences, which may have incorrect checksums. The hex switch, SW1, set to position “4”, provides the means for enabling this function. All incoming NMEA 0183 messages are connected into Channel 1. Channel 2 and all analogue outputs are disabled when in this mode. Re-formulated messages are output from the single NMEA 0183 re-transmit port. Note that any “VLW” message received is stored and re-transmitted at 1Hz until each time that the distance field is updated. All other messages are re-transmitted at the rate at which they are input. See “CABLING” section and drawing 3394-A3-13 for connections.
