沉香被誉为“植物中的钻石”它集天地之灵气汇日月之精华蒙岁月之积淀以至沉香的价值可以达到黄金的三倍。可谓是“沉”得惊世“香”得骇俗千百年来为世人所钟爱。
健康的沉香树是不会凭空产生沉香的它必须在特定的情况下受到创伤如遭受雷劈、强风吹折或者兽虫啃咬、人为砍伐等形式受创后出于植物的本能会分泌树脂抗体来弥补创口。这期间沉香树的创口部会被一种叫做“黄绿墨耳真菌”的微生物所感染这种真菌为了在树体中顽强生存就会做逆境代谢。
沉香还是我国中药史上的瑰宝《本草纲目》记载其：“味辛微温无毒。有降气、纳肾温中、清肝之功效”早在宋朝就有“沉香一片值万钱”的说法。如今沉香已摇身一变成为收藏界的时尚新宠有着“木中钻石”的美称。中国古有“沉檀龙麝”四大香之说沉香列为众香之首。
